About Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa was the ancient capital of Sri Lanka for about 500 years. Built by King Parakramabahu the Great in the 12th century, it is located in the midst of lush tropical forests. The city is laid out in typical ancient Sinhalese city planning, based on Hindu astrological calculations.
